The path from myth to reality had a very simple beginning. A few secret handshakes here. A few knowing winks there. In a town where it’s not what you know but who you know, there were a few hallowed weeks where being (or knowing) a Fritzi Dog regular was worth its weight in 10 hour slow roasted, double-smoked bacon imported from Wisconsin.
Since we don’t abide by the same rules as Fight Club, people talked and talked often as knowledge of a secret, off-menu dog code-named “The Pittsburgh” began to spread like a new, best-ever cat video. Quickly, we went from making just a few Pittsburghs a week to dozens in an afternoon. Our regulars would saddle up to the counter and order with a confidence and swagger that would make Doc Holliday proud while those who yet had to taste the rarified combination of ingredients would meekly beat around the bush until we said the word Pittsburgh. Soon even the meek had swagger thanks to photos and tips popping up on Foursquare proving its existence.
So without further ado, we’d like to formally announce the arrival of The Pittsburgh to the Fritzi Dog menu. We lay the foundation with a Porker Dog nestled inside an original bun. Running parallel to the dog is a piece of bacon so big a Ken doll could use it as a surfboard. The dog is then topped with our grilled onions, melted Tillamook cheddar, with sweet mustard tying everything together.
When we asked our GM Big Dave what inspired his creation, he chose to speak softly, letting the dog be his big stick. “Well, my favorite dog is the Porker and I love bacon so I thought they might make a good pair. And, I’m from Pittsburgh so that sounded like a good name.”
